Co-ordinated efforts

Today I'm attempting to list a few of the organizations involved in the desperate efforts in Haiti. It's an overwhelming task, and I don't want to in any way endorse a fraudulent charity, so I'm going to stick to some of the big Tried and True organizations, in no particular order. Also, it's important to note that because of Haiti's ongoing troubles with hurricanes, poverty, and malnutrition, there were many organizations already there before the quake, and ready to serve the immediate needs of the Haitian peoples.

1. The Red Cross. They were there before the quake, with all the medical equipment in place. The International Red Cross is known around the globe. For more info: redcross.ca
2. Doctors Without Borders. In Haiti it's called Medicins sans Frontieres, but it's the same thing. We have a friend (M!!!) currently serving with Doctors Without Borders in Nigeria. I can tell you that you have to pass rigorous training classes that "weed" people out, the ones who can't handle the pressure, stress, sleeplessness, etc, until only the best make it through. For more info: doctorswithoutborders.org
3. CRWRC. They are going to be working in Leogane, a few hours south-west of PaP. Their focus will be reconstruction of homes, as well as community development. They are also in PaP temporarily, for at least another week yet, distributing tarps and food. For more info: crcna.org/news
4. Samaritans Purse. An excellent global organization, they were in Haiti before the quake, and currently are running out of the Baptist Haiti Mission. It's a 100 bed hospital, currently filled with 300 patients on the floor and in the beds!!! Samaritans Purse currently has NO MORE need for medical staff or volunteers- the have all the help they can handle.
They also work on community development, child programs, and evangelism. For more info: samaritanspurse.org
5. Compassion Canada (International). Known primarily for their child sponsorship programs, they also work with the family, as well as community training and development, seeking the immediate as well as long term needs, and evangelism . For more info: compassion.ca
