News
2 important things today. First, UNICEF has taken over the children in Haiti. This is not a positive move. UNICEF is against international adoption, and is against putting children into care of organizations who are based in other countries. What this means is that they are placing children in tent camps, where they will have little care, instead of into orphanages like GLA, who have been emptied for the specific purpose of providing a safe, loving environment for displaced and sick and injured children. GLA has in place the ability to search and locate parents of displaced children, and care for sick and injured children. They are not bringing children in for the purpose of adoption right now - all adoptions are closed in Haiti now. The Canadian, US, Dutch and Luxembourg governments have all worked with the Haitian government to fast track the adoptions in process to not only get those children out, but for the purpose of clearing space for children to be cared for. UNICEF is not allowing this to happen, and orphanages like GLA remain mostly empty while tent cities are getting packed with these children. For more information about this and what you can do, please visit www.godslittlestangelsinhaiti.org. This is very serious and we need to do everything we can.

Thanks for continuing to share. I too have followed your journey, knowing where you were...only imagining what it must look like there now. The devastation makes me feel so overwhelmed...and so then I turn off the news...I hate how easy it is to forget about it, as I continue to live my comfortable life here in Canada. I can't even imagine the culture shock/adjustment you are having to go through right now. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Blessings to you both Garner and Michelle.
