Another day has gone by here in Zimbabwe. This one was spent more Zim-style - we just got power back after 24 straight hours with none. The generators are not working, either, as apparently the whole country currently has a major shortage of diesel. I hope no patients were on oxygen, and I hope no babies had to be born by flashlight before the power came back on! Garn had been busy inspecting the primary school for mechanical issues. So far he's written 3 pages. Today I spent sorting and labelling textbooks for the nursing school, a job I find more fun than sorting boxes, which I did yesterday. My day got way brighter with the appearance of a new friend! While Garn was walking around, a baby chameleon jumped or fell out of a tree onto his t-shirt! He is our new pet, and everyone here at the guesthouse has been having a good time with him. He's really small, I'm hoping to get a picture up. We also have a gecko in our room, so the tiny little chameleon is currently being housed in the bathroom to protect him from the potentially hungry, far larger lizard. We'll probably have to let the chameleon go tomorrow, as he doesn't seem to have an appetite for dead bugs, and while we've come up with plans to attract live ones, we'd kinda rather keep the bug population of our room minimal. However, he's so cute, and is happy when he can crawl up my arms and sit on my shoulder, so it will be hard to set him free.
It is now Wednesday morning. I lost internet last night and couldn't post. We had power most of the night, but lost it again about 2 hrs ago. Hopefully it was enough to cool the fridges and freeze the freezers! We'll be losing internet soon, too. This is Africa! Still so glad to be here...
