I don't have much time, but I have an incredible story to tell . I'm going to have to write it in little blips and segments, but I'll call them Part 1, Part 2, etc. Here goes:
. . . . . . . .
This is a story about a little boy named F______. He came to the orphanage very small, struggling to survive. He was considered a Failure To Thrive baby. Basically, being a FTT, he was surviving, but not growing well enough. He needed a little extra.
Michelle and I came to Haiti in March. Please feel free to read our blog entries from last March, it may really help you to really understand.
Michelle was asked to give him 4 hours of one-on-one care a day. We took him out in the evenings as well, and we both feel madly in love with the sweet, quiet, gentle, loving little boy. He excelled while he was in our care.
Three weeks later, it was time for us to go. We didn't think we would ever see him again, and it was very hard to leave him. We would have adopted him in a heartbeat, but there is a process involved, and we hadn't even looked into it. He needed a home. Soon after returning home, we learned that he had been proposed to a wonderful family in the U.S. We were happy for him, but very saddened all the same. We would never see him again.
But God had other plans. On January 12 a huge earthquake rocked Haiti, and the epicenter was about 4-5 miles west of God's Littlest Angels orphanage, in the exact direction of the sunsets we had come to love so much. Now something so beautiful was also something so ugly. The quake was very shallow, only about 5 miles down underground, and the land rolled. The land heaved back and forth about a meter ( approximately three feet) back and forth. At the orphanage, the nannies grabbed all the children and ran outside. Little F was among the group of kids rushed outside, where they spent the first night as the ground continued to rumble and groan.
