Michelle

She and several other nurses are frantically working on starting IV's, and stabilizing the little girl. She HAS to get on that plane!! Michelle will not be allowed on the flight to Miami, because she's Canadian. There are american nurses will be on that flight, and then coming back here again on the next possible flight. Things could get a lot busier for Michelle, real quick!
It could be very interesting. There are people frantically working, trying to get a large number of people to PAP airport. How many kids can you handle on a bus, dealing with tantrums, diapers, food, water, fresh clothes just before boarding, all the while dealing with sick kids and diarrhea. We will need several buses and a lot of volunteers to pull this off, but buses can't fit down this narrow road, so we have to shuttle all the kids, volunteers, and supplies down the narrow roads for a few miles to where we can meet with the buses. A logistical nightmare, to be sure! Please pray that it all goes smoothly!
Talk to you all later.

Thanks for all the updates! Your tone of urgency comes through loud and clear; we will continue to pray that somehow the logistics get figured out and all 83 kids will make it safely to their new homes and families. There have been countless miracles already at GLA so we know first hand that all is possible through Him who gives us strength.

Here is a reply from Rob Merrifield's office regarding adoptions to Canada:

Dear Steven,

On behalf of Rob Merrifield I would like to thank you for your email. The Minister has received a number of emails regarding the issue of adoption in Haiti.

I just wanted to let you know that the federal Government will be flying Haitian children adopted by Canadian parents within days. Special measures are being taken to speed up 100 adoption applications in Canada that were in progress before the earthquake hit. These children will get temporary residence permits and health care upon arrival.

Minister Jason Kenny, Minister of Immigration, has contacted the provinces and asked them to send his office their lists of parents already in their systems so that they can approach the Haitian authorities with this list to have their confirmation Canada can take these children to our country. Minister Kenney will also be sending staff to Port-au-Prince to help with these and other immigration files, and they have already established an office in Santo Domingo.

Minister Kenny has assured Canadians that he is working urgently with the provinces to identify all the relevant adoption cases he can act on at this time. Any adoptive parents who have an adoption case under way for a child in Haiti should call the CIC Call Centre at 1-888-242-2100, or email question-Haiti@cic.gc.ca

Thank you for your concern on this issue. I will be sure to bring your email to Minister Merrifield’s attention. If you should have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our office, or check out government websites such as www.cida.ca or www.international.gc.ca and click on links to Haiti.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely,

Kate

Wow, sounds like a hectic day so far for everyone! Praying and hoping the nurses are able to stabilize the young girl, and that she is able to make the flight!
I agree, many miracles have already happened, so we know anything is possible thru Him! Trust that God will provide ways for all the kids to make it safely to the airport...
I can just imagine the excitement and emotions the families are experiencing knowing their babies are on their way home :)

Garner and Michelle, you are wonderful servants of Jesus! He is using you in fantastic ways! We are praying for you: that God would keep you safe from physical harm, that he would give you daily encouragement and strength and that He would work miracles in getting the kids to their homes. We pray for the staff at GLA and for the kids.

The previous comment is from me, Debbie Groot. Garner, you're not the only geek!

Garn and Michelle, I have also contacted Rob Merrifeilds office. I asked them if in any way possible, things could be speeded up and for more orphans to have opportunity. They said they are working on the 100 applications from before the earthquake. I mentioned that I am certain, and they must already know as well, that I am sure there would be thousands of Canadians who are willing and capable to do so much more. They can and will if there is proof that the children are actually orphans so that they don't give away someone else's child...blah, blah, blah (red tape of course). But we will be diligent on our end. Strength and blessings to you and everyone else. The love and power of Christ be with you, Cal B.
