This is a cookie. It feels like a cookie. It looks like a cookie. From a distance it may even look appetizing, but it does not taste like a cookie. It tastes a lot like licking your shovel off after digging a post hole. And the texture is the same. These are now available at the "store" next door to here, and our friend Rhyan who was explaining to us about the Mud Cookies said that they never used to be available at that store, so she believes that it is an indication that things are getting much worse locally. Pregnant women buy these Mud Cookies as a way of aquiring a little extra minerals in their diets, but the texture is.... you know how clay is. It's baked of course, so supposedly the bacteria are killed off.
This past week we had plenty of people drop off kids here forever( or at least they wanted too). On woman dropped off a 2yr old girl and a 4yr old boy. The girl had orange hair, and trust me it wasn't highlights, but rather a sure sign of malnutrition.
But at least they get to go to "rich families". A couple of kids went to new families last week, one went to Holland. This week we have three families coming from Holland to pick up their kids.
Holland ,France, Canada, U.S are the main destinations. I'm happy for those kids. It'll be pretty scary at first, since they've never been outside these walls, never even seen a blade of grass before, but it'll be so much better.
There definately used to be money in Haiti, not a lot, but some. I believe the government is largely to blame, because they've been putting the money into the wrong pockets. John says that when they started this orphanage the one stretch of road was fairly new and good yet, but he also figures that that was the last year that any roadwork was actually done( 16 yrs, I think) Now roads in some areas are just crumbling, as if someone took a jack hammer to them, pulled some pieces out, and walked away.
John repaces shock abbsorbers once a year. tires once a year, sometimes they separate though and then it's whenever. You should hear how bad vehicles rattle out here.
Anyway, michelle should be up now, and we'll get a bowl of nutrition for breakfast.

yummmm! That cookie looks delicious! (not!) haha...you're right though....kinda just looks like a big round cookie! I can imagine it tastes not so good :s
Very cool that you are able to witness some of the kids going to their new families. I can imagine that it must be very scary for those little ones...
Funny...someone from Holland added me as a friend on facebook...we have one mutual friend from USA, and Im pretty sure they live in Holland. Anyways...it looks like they are adopting a child from GLA, and are just in the waiting process!
Weird, I know....small world.
Anyways...hope you're both doing good....thanks for being Gods hands and feet, and for giving so much of your time and hearts.
Maybe I have pica, but... yummm!!
