A trip into Port-au-Prince

I had a very productive and informative trip into PAP today. John and Brad and I were on a quest to find a pressurewasher. Who knew it could be so hard? We went to 7 or 8 different hardware stores before we found a pressure washer that we could afford. The security is very tight , so no worries there. We first went to Eko Depot(Home Depot maybe?). there was an armed security guard outside, armed with a shotgun. You go inside, and the staff follow you everywhere and scrutinize your every move. When you are done you go to the till. Three men are there, all confirming your purchases. They spread everything out on the counter, and then count slowly, starting with the hooks. Un, de, twa, kat. Wi?? (I'm not spelling wrong, it's creole)
Wi, c'est bonne. Next the rolls of wire. Un, de. Wi?? Wi, c'est bonne. Etc, etc till you come up with a totally insanely expensive amount for very few items.
Then they escort you to the next level of security. Three men ask you to spread out ALL of your items out on their counter, and all three watch as one guy who's likely really good at counting tries to comfirm that everything on your bill is exactly as it should be. This process takes longer than the actual shopping. Imagine a trip with 6 of this plumbing parts, 6 of the next, etc.
Took piles of pictures today. U.N. vehicles, tap-taps, Unicef, Oxfam, Doctors without Borders. At one point we were in a traffic circle that was completely jammed for what was about ten minutes to go about two hundred feet. Did I mention that there are no rules for driving?
